Debbie and Mike* were married for over 30 years. Mike’s job loss and inability to find work a year later had taken a financial toll on the marriage. Debbie felt Mike wasn’t trying hard enough to find his next job; Mike felt Debbie needed to step up and be more serious to find “a real job.” (Debbie admitted to dabbling in part-time work never having fully committed to anything permanent.) In a few sessions we helped identify core issues plaguing each of them as well as identifying what they needed financially to feel more secure. We guided them to recognize areas they would have to choose differently. We also provided other resources and services that could support them in this transition.
